Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) are very useful and effective tools in disaster management. Various disasters like tsunamis, cyclones, earthquakes, drought, floods, landslides, fires, volcanic eruptions are generally geo – climatic events, and affect all the world. Globally, natural disasters account for nearly 80 percent of all disasters which affect people and destroy property and infrastructure every year. Natural disasters can not be prevented, but their adverse impact can be minimized by taking certain with mitigation measures. Tsunamis are the most regular geological disasters in coastal regions, landslides in mountain regions, with particularly in Himalayan Ranges. Among the various measures to mitigate the negative impacts of disaster, planning and preparedness are the most crucial means along with GIS and RS . Today GIS and Remote Sensing play a very important role in disaster management all over the world.
